Thank you, friends of Dish And Spoon Melbourne, for all of your support this year. We are so grateful to you for all the lovely feedback we’ve received over the year, for you spreading the word to your friends and family, and to everyone who has placed an order with us over the last twelve months. We are so proud of the way our business has grown, but we’re also beyond thrilled that some of our first ever customers from September 2017 when we opened, are still receiving orders from us every week. Thank you all so much. We wish you a very happy and safe festive season, and we are so looking forward to seeing you all again in January of 2019. First deliveries of the year will be the 13th and 14th of the month of January. If you place an order during the break please note that you will receive an email confirming your delivery date, it just might take a bit longer then usual to arrive! All Feed Me subscriptions have now been paused. If you would like your subscription to be reactivated at a later date (if you’ll also be away in January) please let me know – firstname.lastname@example.org.
Stay safe and well, and eat, drink and be merry!
Caitlyn and the Dish And Spoon Melbourne family x
Are you feeling festive yet?

We would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support of Dish And Spoon Melbourne over 2018. It’s been an incredible year for us – how first full year of running this business – and we have loved meeting all the new families we’ve been sharing dinner with over the year. Whatever you do and however you celebrate the ending of one year and the beginning of another, we hope you enjoy yourselves, and stay safe and well. We’ll be back bigger and brighter in 2019, with deliveries starting again on the 13th and 14th of January.
Brett, Pam, Caitlyn, Dylan and and the Dish And Spoon Melbourne family x
Hi friends, get in quickly to place an order before we fill up for this coming weekend. New menu up on the website for this week, and the rest of the month to follow. See you soon! x
See what I did there? Hi there. We hope your week is off to a great start. Has there been any everyday magic in your day? An extra good coffee? A pastry? A stroll in the sunshine? It’s glorious out there! I hope whatever you’re doing today that it’s a good day.
We just wanted to say hi. We’ve been a bit quiet lately on the webs because in our kitchen and in our real lives, we’ve been crazy busy. We’ve had International family to visit, we’ve had a death in the family and we’ve lost someone we loved, and in the midst of it all we’ve had a record number of customers and catering. Phew! We haven’t forgotten you and we appreciate you and your support so much. I hope we can start sending out the newsletter again soon (I miss doing it!), and when life is a bit less chaotic I will be back in your inbox on the weekly. For now, please accept our apologies for the quiet, but we still love hearing from you and seeing you out on the road when Chef brings your delicious deliveries. Thanks so much for your love and support, Caitlyn and the Dish And Spoon Melbourne fam x
Hello lovely friends, hope your week is going along swimmingly! We’re putting the word out for a tray amnesty – if you have trays and boxes from us for collecting please do get in touch email@example.com, and we’ll come and collect them. It’s Wednesday so you know what that means, it’s order day! If you’d like a delicious delivery on Sunday or Monday, pop your order in online. See you soon xx
Hi folks, enjoy your delivery if you received some deliciousness yesterday, or if you’re expecting yours today! As of this evening, the Dish And Spoon Melbourne kitchen will be closed for the weekend – the Chef is deserving of a lie in and a rest to watch the footy, so all Feed Me subscriptions are paused, and any multi-week orders will be carried over until next week. Our apologies for any inconvenience, but as you all know running a family business for families with your family (say that 3 times fast!) means looking after each other. We think that means giving everyone a rest when one is needed, so we hope you’ll understand why it’s important for us to have a little break too. We’ll be back refreshed and ready for action and deliveries on Sunday the 7th and Monday the 8th. We hope you have a lovely, restful, relaxing long weekend ahead! Cait and family x
Hope you’ve had a lovely, extra sweet Sunday. Thank you so much for your orders, and we hope you enjoy your meals this week and the tiny treat we’ve added in to thank you for celebrating our first birthday with us. Have a super week xx
So sorry for the radio silence on our part…the Dish And Spoon family have been struck down with illness (except the chef, thank goodness!) so we are resting and recovering, and eating a lot of soup. Thank you all so much for making last weekend our busiest on record. Don’t forget to place your order online before midnight tonight for delivery this coming Sunday or Monday. We are looking forward to seeing you soon! xx
Get your soup orders in, and have instant warmth and comfort delivered to your door, AND receive a free pudding (this week only!). Sound good? Order here by midnight tonight for delicious dinners delivered to you. xo
Hello, and happy Wednesday! Have you got your order in to receive delicious, home made dinners delivered to you at home this weekend? Hurry! You’ve got until midnight tonight. Can’t wait to see you soon x
Winter is here. It’s cold, it’s grey, the evenings are dark. Come home to dinner, ready to go in the oven, while you relax. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Our winter menu is full of cosy, comforting dinners that will warm hearts and bellies on these cold nights. Click here to have a delivery of homemade goodness brought straight to your door this weekend x
Hello there, we’ve missed you! Hope you had a lovely weekend. We are back after a huge catering weekend to bring your dinner on Sunday and Monday afternoon. Have a squiz at the June menu (there are only two weeks left of June already, how?), and July/August menus are coming soon. Place an order online before Wednesday midnight to get some of this deliciousness in your life. XOX
Hi you lovely lot, just another quick reminder from us that there will be no Dish And Spoon Melbourne deliveries this weekend, as we are catering a HUGE event and unfortunately can’t manage both at once (the Chef only has two arms!). Please get in touch anytime if you have any queries or concerns, and we look forward to seeing you all again over the long weekend. D&S xx
Nothing says home and comfort like roast chicken, especially when it’s grey and chilly outside. Just like Nigella Lawson, high priestess of the kitchen, once said, “You could probably get through life without knowing how to roast a chicken, but the question is, why would you want to?” She’s right you know. So, next week we bring you some delicious family favourites, perfect for warming hearts and bellies. Click here to place your order for delivery this weekend! xo
Welcome to the week! Our new May menu is up, and you can get your orders in before midnight tomorrow to come home for dinner xx Click here to see the new menu!
Thank you, you lovely lot, we are officially full to the brim for Sunday and Monday deliveries. You must have missed your dinners last week! We can’t wait to see you over the weekend. Any late orders will be delivered next weekend cos the little delivery van is gonna be PACKED! Much love x
Hello! How are you all? We are back on board this week, with a lovely menu for delivery this Sunday 13th May, and Monday 14th of May (we hope you haven’t been missing us too much this past week!)
You can see the start of May menu here, and we will be uploading the rest of the month as well as June’s menu as soon as we can. Rest assured Chef Brett is working hard on creating delicious, family friendly menus from his deck chair in Vietnam! Deliveries are filling up fast for Mother’s Day, so get your order in as soon as you can. And don’t forget you can add extra treats for Mum (or for yourself!) from our Extras menu – think chocolate mousse, crepes, crumbles, and little treat baskets full of goodies that Mum will love.
Can’t wait to see you all again really soon! Remember to get in touch anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Love, Caitlyn x
Just a little bit excited here, folks! Look what we’ve got, and just in time for your Mother’s Day orders – our new range of gift baskets are up on the website and available for purchase here! In fact, let’s celebrate the day of the mama a bit early. I will make up one very special basket, choc full of care package goodness, to give away with the next gift order we get for Mother’s Day! Just place your order before next Wednesday at midnight, and tell me why this mama is so special. We’ll make her day, and week, with some extra goodies just for her. Can’t wait to share these lovely gifts with you all. Just in case you hadn’t worked it out, Mama Loves Baskets is still part of Dish And Spoon Melbourne – the idea is that they can be added on to a gift of meals and delivered at the same time, but I’m also happy to arrange a special delivery whenever needed. Just cos who wants just one side hustle? Two seems like the right amount to me. Plus, I just really love presents, and found that when giving gifts for new mum friends, or friends in hospital, or friends having a tricky time of it flowers don’t always cut it. You want something that makes you feel a bit special, a bit cared for, and definitely loved. Email me anytime at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org to place an order for a customised gift basket full of love. Caitlyn x
Happy weekend, all you lovelies. Hope you enjoy your dinners next week! Chef is out on the road tomorrow and Monday afternoon, and then he is off for a whole week, sunning himself on the beach and getting a well earned rest. Full dinner service resumes on the 13th and 14th of May, but I’m still here taking orders etc while the Chef and his co-captain are away. Get in touch anytime. Best wishes, Cait xx
So, we have some news, that mostly effects our Feed Me families. Chef Brett, and his co-captain, Pam, have worked so hard since Dish And Spoon Melbourne began in September last year, and they haven’t had a single weekend off since then. They lovingly cook, package, and deliver every meal you have had from Dish And Spoon, and they are absolute champions. So, we’ve decided that they need a holiday, just for one week, but it means there will be no deliveries on Sunday the 6th or Monday the 7th of May. All Feed Me subscriptions will be paused for that week, and full dinner service resumes the week after. If you have a multi-week order that means you would have had a delivery over this weekend, it will be delivered the following weekend. Thank you all so much for your understanding, and we are apologetic about any inconvenience caused. Our family business centres on the importance of family, so we are going to practice what we preach and take care of our own. There will be another pause for Feed Me’s mid-year, so if you like pop it in your diaries now. There will no orders delivered on Sunday 3rd of June or Monday 4th of June, for far less exotic reasons then an overseas holiday, but Dish And Spoon Melbourne will be feeding 400 doctors at the Royal Children’s Hospital that weekend. Again, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused but we have some very special people to feed! Please get in touch with Caitlyn anytime – email@example.com – with any questions or concerns, and thank you all so much, as ever, for your support xx
Hi friends! Look what we’ve got for you! It’s been a joy to send out all your boxes of meals as gifts to new parents, friends and family. Now, we’ve taken it up a notch and are adding perfect little gift baskets and care packages to our Extras menu, so that you can add a thoughtful, beautiful gift to a delivery of meals for that very special someone. Mother’s Day baskets, New Mama baskets, Get Well Soon packages, and delux care packages will be up on the website to purchase very, very soon! In the meantime, follow @mamalovesbaskets on Instagram, and email firstname.lastname@example.org to pop your name down for a Mother’s Day basket. Just like this one here, they will come with a sweet smelling candle, tea, a choccie treat, a face mask, and a beautiful card. Just what a mama wants to treat herself! We hope you love them xx
Get your orders in, lovelies! Extend that relaxed, long weekend vibe and let us take care of dinner next week. Orders in by midnight tonight for delivery on Sunday and Monday xx
Hope you’ve all had lovely weekends. Almost Easter, and a few days of rest and relation ahead (fingers crossed!) Our new April menu is up on the website tonight (last week of April and May menu coming soon), and just another friendly reminder that your Easter deliveries will be on Monday the 2nd of April and Tuesday the 3rd of April next week, so if your delivery usually comes on a Sunday you’ll see Chef Brett on Monday, and if your order usually comes on Monday, you’ll see him Tuesday. Any concerns please give me a shout at email@example.com. Thank you, and have a happy and safe Easter break. Caitlyn xx
Almost time to have your orders in for delivery on Sunday and Monday! Get them in tonight before midnight for a week of stress-free dinners ahead x
Hi lovely folk, hope you’re well, and hope you enjoy your dinners this week!
Just a heads up to our regular families and anyone ordering over the Easter weekend, that Dish And Spoon Melbourne delivery dates will be slightly different. If you usually receive your order on a Sunday, it will be delivered on Easter Monday the 2nd of April, and if your orders usually arrive on a Monday, it will be coming on Easter Tuesday the 3rd of April. We’re hoping that this causes minimum disruption to your long weekend, but if you have any concerns or if you’ll be away (Feed Me customers also please note, I can pause your subscription rather then you cancelling it if you’ll be away for the weekend, so that your deliveries can keep coming uninterrupted the week after!) please get in touch and let me know. Best for a lovely week ahead, Caitlyn x
Welcome to the week, all you lovelies. Hope you had a terrific weekend, and hope you all enjoy your meals this week. Orders are open until Wednesday for delivery this coming Sunday and Monday, and don’t forget to have a peek at the new range of delicious extras available on the website. Big love x
…check it out and tell us what you think. March is full of family favourites, chock full of veg, and full of love x
PS we’ve had some requests for new items – not dinners as such – but tasty, healthy, easy to grab snacks for kids lunch boxes, and for gifts. What do you think? Should we give that a try too? Say yes, I really want to give that a go! Cait X
Hello loves, welcome to Wednesday. Dish And Spoon Melbourne are now coming to Kew, Camberwell, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Balwyn, Canterbury, Mont Albert and Docklands. Anywhere else you’d like us to come to? Let us know! X
…guess what we’ve been working on? Creating a new Extras menu for you to enjoy! The old favourites are still up (we had so much love for the soups, even over summer, that we’ve left them there), but there are new favourites to discover including extra vegetable options, bright and delicious salads, delectable desserts, and some quite fancy dinner party-esque meals for when you have special company, or you just feel like treating yourselves on a regular Tuesday night (and why not?!). We hope you love them! If you fancy avoiding the crowds and doing Valentines Day right – at home, in your PJ’s, with a bottle of wine – we’ve got you covered. All Extras are delivered as part of your usual meal delivery on either a Sunday or Monday. Have a look here, and we hope you love them xx
Mamas, something has just occurred to me, and I want to ask your advice. I was listening to the Scummy Mummies podcast this morning (and if you aren’t into them yet, you must have a listen – incredibly funny but sometimes very poignant parenting chat. Also they swear a lot so don’t tune in if you’re not so onboard with that), but they were talking about the ‘super mum myth’. You know, this idea that mothers should be able to do everything – manage work, family, life, keep the ship afloat – and all effortlessly. Women are also sometimes not great at asking for help, so they just carry on until everything falls apart because it’s just not possible to do all the things. Do you know what I mean?
I was thinking about how we can better reach out to mamas. We created this business for busy people of all kinds, not just parents, but my heart is really in the busy/working mama space right now. I want to tell mothers like me juggling balls all day that it’s okay to ask for help from wherever you need it, and that the ‘super mum myth’ is exactly that. How can we reach busy mothers to let them know that we can help? Dinner happens every night, and for some working parents it can be a source of much angst. I’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas. Thanks for tuning in to the rambles! Caitlyn xx
Hello lovelies, and happy Monday. Let’s hope it’s a good one. Does anyone else remember the old fashioned (something your Nanna might say) saying “a Sunday well spent brings a week of content”? I’m really into that right now. Things were organised and cleaned yesterday, and this morning was…smoother? It feels good! Who would have thought? Packing bags, arranging clothes, pre-making snacks = not so stressful morning. A slow and restful Sunday, pottering about at home, drinking coffee sets you up for a good week, I think. For those that had deliveries arrive yesterday, we hope they help make your week a bit easier so you can spend some time doing whatever it is you would like to do instead of cooking, and can I just say, the pesto grilled veg pizza is really, super delicious. You’ve still got a few days to place an order for delivery on Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd, so get in before the Wednesday midnight cut off. And, the new February menu is up on the website, and it’s a cracker! Happy Monday, and I hope this week is a lovely one for you. Caitlyn x
…by referring a friend to Dish And Spoon Melbourne! Let us know that you’ve referred a friend who has placed an order, and you’ll both receive a complimentary dessert. We hear so often about new customers who have lovely family or friends that have referred them, so now we are going to reward your loveliness with pudding. Delish! Thank you so much for spreading the word xx
Well hello there, new year! We are back in the game. It’s…what day of the week is it? Are you completely disoriented too? The beginning of January is often just a blur, isn’t it? I hope you feel well rested, and ready to take on a whole new year with new plans, new adventures, new wonders awaiting you. For anyone that had an order delivered these last few days, the beef burgers are crazy good. We all enjoyed them last night (toddler approved!), while we were winding down from the first day of the year, so I hope you and your family enjoy yours too. Orders are open today and tomorrow until midnight, so do get in touch if you’d like a delivery of delicious goodness at your door this Sunday or Monday. Dish And Spoon Melbourne are raring to go on what we hope will be a terrific new year for us all! Caitlyn x
…is singing loud for all to hear, according to Buddy the Elf (our toddler watched that movie everyday last December, but devastatingly we haven’t had one single viewing this December, so I’m desperate to watch it. Will save it for Christmas eve). If you’re not as interested in singing as you are in eating (me!), then perhaps the best way to spread love and warmth this season is to share a meal with people you love. That’s sort of the essence of it, isn’t it? When you strip away all the presents and the consumerist anxiety, that’s what it’s about. That’s the greatest pleasure of it for me – Dad’s turkey roll and Christmas trifle are worth waiting a whole year for – so I hope you’re all looking forward to that too. This week the order cut off for delivery is still Wednesday, but we will be delivering on Saturday the 23rd, and in the AM of Sunday the 24th, to bring you some delicious meals to have in the fridge if all the Christmas food gets a bit much. There is still time for making gingerbread and nursing a box of Quality Street on your lap whilst taking in the special sight of twinkle lights sparkling on the tree. Now that’s Christmas cheer. Caitlyn x
Hello there, happy Tuesday! We are getting through the week. This is your friendly reminder to place your Dish And Spoon Melbourne orders before midnight tomorrow for delivery this Sunday or Monday. We can’t wait to see you all, and remember to get in touch with us – firstname.lastname@example.org – with summer menu favourites and suggestions. We will be updating the website with a bright and fresh summer menu shortly, so let us know what you fancy when the days are long and warm! Cait x
Hello loves, hope you’ve had a really wonderful weekend. So nice to see so many of you today on the delivery drop, and to see so many smiling faces. Just in case you didn’t know, we are now delivering across Melbourne on two days – Sunday and Mondays – to meet the growing demands for our little business, which is terrific! We are emailing you all after your orders have been placed to confirm your delivery day, and even though day is based on location, please do get in touch if you need your delivery on one or the other particular days. We will also be sure to let you know when a third delivery day will be added in the new year. So, the chef will be back on the road tomorrow to bring some delicious dinners to start your weeks with. We hope you love them. As always, D&S x
Hello loves, hope you’re all well and enjoying some sun (with the appropriate amount of sunscreen, hats, cool drinks etc)!
Just putting out a call to anyone we might have missed who may still have a Dish And Spoon Melbourne box or trays at home with them? I’m so sorry, we haven’t forgotten you I promise, we’ve been so busy bringing dinners all over Melbourne that we think most outstanding trays have come back, but perhaps not all. Please do get in touch email@example.com or by text if you have the number to arrange a collection. Thank you so much for keeping them safe for us, and we hope so much that you’ve enjoyed your meals xox
Melbourne is awash with rainbows today, what a lovely thing. This is a very special, historic Wednesday – not just a regular old Wednesday – and our family could not be more thrilled at the outpouring of love and support for marriage equality in Australia. Thank you to all our beautiful and diverse customers XXXX
PS because it’s a special Wednesday and it’s “place your order before the weekend delivery day” Wednesday, anyone who places an order today will get a special extra in their delivery box because LOVE.
Loves, it’s Wednesday, which means we are cutting off orders placed after midnight tonight for delivery this weekend. Let us take care of you and your dinner next week, and see how much easier coming home for dinner is. If you’ve not given us a try yet, let this be your week – a cracker of a menu, and lots of love going out there to you all. Get in touch or place an order over the website. Can’t wait to see you all on Sunday! Cait x
Hi you lovelies, happy beginning of the week. Hope it’s a good one for you. It’s cold, and wintery, and when is summer coming? For now, there is hot chocolate, and chocolate biscuits, and chicken pie. Oh yes. Much as I can’t wait for summer it’s not as cosy as winter. The Dane’s are really onto something with this ‘hygee’ concept, aren’t they? Everyone’s on the band wagon but I dig it. Candles, soft light, pristine Scandi furniture. What a dream! How do they keep said furniture clean with toddlers in the house? How? It’s an impossible dream for me. Everything is covered in pieces of Duplo (oh wait, Lego is Scandi!) and crayons and Maisy Mouse books. Maybe one day our house will be in order and the Hygge will be flowing. In the meantime, chicken pie is my go to, and I hope it brings you a bit of comfort this week too. Caity x
Hello lovelies, how you doing this week? We are headed toward some warmer weather (finally) which means lazy days, sandals, and gin and tonics (oh yes, gin weather you are my favourite). What do you want most for dinner when it’s warm? We are putting together our next menu for November, so we’re hoping you’ll tell us what you’d most like for dinner. Get in touch.
We are seven weeks into our little venture now and are learning all the time. We want to thank you all for being on this wild ride – a journey, if you will – as we figure out our little place in the world. We want to thank everyone who got their deliveries late on Sunday night for being so understanding and patient. You could say we were a little unprepared for how this little idea would take off, but we are thrilled that it has. It has been so wonderful to see what families are enjoying eating, and what tired, busy people are coming home to every night. Warms the cockles of our hearts to be a part of something as important as your dinner. Make sure you show/tell us – use the #dishandspoonmelbourne or #comehomefordinner so we can see!
Also, is it too soon to talk Christmas? It might be, but just so you know it’s going to be big. Gifts, Christmas dinners, catering for functions, feeding your families – we’ve got you covered. More to come but if you want to know more ahead of the game, get in touch.
Thank you all for being here, we HEART you x
Hello lovely lot, a massive day of deliveries and meeting a whole bunch of new faces is behind us. It was a mammoth effort on behalf of the Dish And Spoon team yesterday – all hands were on deck – but we were running a little behind schedule due to a huge increase in orders (hurrah!), so we will be changing our delivery times over the next few weeks to make them more manageable for us, and hopefully more convenient for you. Stay tuned! We will update our social media and the details will be in our newsletter this week. Have a wonderful, sunshine filled week xx
…a huge, huge thank you to everyone who has placed an order this week. Just wow. We are truly overwhelmed by your love and support (in particular to the ‘Mums of Darebin’ Facebook group who managed to crash our website with their enthusiasm!). We are truly so grateful for the opportunity to be in your lives and sharing our food with you. Much love as always xx
We are up to week 6 of Dish And Spoon Melbourne, and time is flying by! We are starting work on November’s menu, and are beginning to have visions of sugarplums – and gingerbread men, rum and raisin brownies, plum pudding ice cream, and other ‘C’ word related foods – so exciting! (but more on that to come). For now, we’d love to hear from you. We want to know what you’ve been enjoying in your orders, or what you’d love to see on the next months menu. Tell us what your family love to eat. We’ve shared some of our favourites with you, now we want you to help with designing our new summer menu. Think light and tasty favourites for warm evenings, possibly to be eaten outdoors, or with doors wide open and sunlight coming through. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Let’s hope this lovely Melbourne sunshine sticks around. We can’t wait to hear from you xx
Hello to you all! It’s Sunday, and we are up and at ’em (daylight savings, you are bit mean in the beginning, aren’t you?). Time for a massive cup of tea and to tell you about something special we’ve cooked up (ahem…pardon the pun) for you all this month.
We’ve been riding this little train for almost a full month now, and we are so completely chuffed with the beautiful response that our little venture is getting now she’s out there in the world. Your kind words, orders pouring in, and the wonderful ways you are spreading the word and sharing the love are filling us with joy. We’ve been hearing a lot that our meals are being given us gifts to new parents, or friends in need of a bit of care and special treatment, and that lots of new customers are being referred from friends. We want to spread that love right back to you in October to thank you all for every bit of love that’s come our way. If you’ve been enjoying your meals, and you think a friend will too, we’ve got a special treat up our sleeves. When you and your mate both place a new order for Dish And Spoon Melbourne, you (the referee!) use the code LOVE at the checkout to receive an extra delicious sweet dessert tray free with your order, and your friend can use the code WELCOME to receive a free dinner and a free dessert. Maybe your friend is a hard working parent, without much free time to spend in the kitchen, or maybe they are just plain hardworking and deserve a bit of special treatment this week. Aren’t you a lovely friend? Maybe you can have a dinner party and share your dessert trays together? Now that’s really sharing the love. Thank you all so much for what has been a wonderful first month. This offer is open for all of October, so keep the orders coming in. Can’t wait to see you next Sunday x
Enjoy your luxurious Friday off, Melbourne! Sleep in, go out for coffee, eat something delicious. Read. Enjoy! Apparently there’s a footy game sometime over the weekend, but don’t let that get in the way of your luxuriating plans…!
See all you beauties who have placed week 4 orders on Sunday. Next week it’s October. What the what? We have just posted the new months menu on the website, and you’ll be hearing a lot more about it over the next few weeks. There is great stuff coming in October! Stay tuned and watch this space! Big love x
The best part of being a small, family business, is being a small, family business. Did you know that about us? That we are just a family who loves to eat and loves feeding people? We are a family, and it takes all of us (including some very precious members overseas cheering from the sidelines) to make this little venture work. We are cooking, cleaning, delivering, talking, meeting, eating, writing – just us. When we bring your delivery on Sundays, it’s members of our family that come to meet you. And we love it! These last few weeks have been so special. We have all worked really hard, but we have received the most incredible feedback (some of which will be posted here, stay tuned!) that what we are doing is great. That people are enjoying the dinners so much. That it’s helping busy families to get through the week. That they have leftovers for lunch because the servings are so generous. That they love the personal touches on each delivery. We are so thrilled to be doing what we love, and sharing it with you all. This is a massive shout out to each of you who have ordered with us – old friends and new friends – and allowed us to be a part of your day. And it’s also a massive thank you to ALL our family (you know who you are) without whom none of this would be possible. All the dishes you wash, all the hours of child care, all the work in the background doesn’t go unnoticed. It takes a village. Or a family. We love you xx
I wanted to share with you this lovely article from a Dutch magazine called Flow. It’s gorgeous. So well designed with beautiful art work, and lots of thought provoking content. Recently they had a story in their Love & Life special about family, and I loved this picture of a family – all sorts of different ages and stages of life – sitting together at the table to eat. I also especially liked this quote from the article – “the tie with family members is unbreakable. Even if you’re the black sheep of the family, even if you’re living far away in a foreign country or if you only see each other at funerals, you are always your parents’ child and you will always have that sister or brother. You carry your family members in your genes, in your memories and in your thoughts”. It’s so true, isn’t it? We all come from somewhere, and maybe that somewhere means different things to you over the course of your life, but essentially, we are all in this together. If you can, eat with your family. Talk about things that matter. And enjoy being together. Whatever your family looks like – urban friendship families, long lost families, families of one or two – it’s all about nourishing yourselves and those who mean the most to you. That’s the essence of life, really, isn’t it? xx
Good morning friends! Happy Monday to you. I hope it’s off to a ripper start. Had a coffee? That’s they only way to start Monday. Hopefully you are feeling fuelled up and ready to tackle the week. So, how lucky are we to live in this lovely little suburb? Or in its surrounds, if that’s where you are. Every day I am so heart-warmed by the people in this community – the ones I know and the ones I don’t – and feel really, truly, like this is a lovely place to live. Friendly puppies stop for pats, small children wave and chat to each other as they walk past, and it’s so nice to share a smile and a “good morning!” with a stranger. If you don’t normally try to say hello to someone you don’t know in the course of your day, you should. Give it a try! I think you’ll like it. Back to the ‘burb. The streets are just starting to smell like spring flowers, and that is a truly uplifting smell. That, and the smell of my morning latte from Pepper, where I have been buying coffee since I first moved to this area over ten years ago. It feels like a place where everyone belongs. The little ritual of walking there most days to order our takeaway coffee is one that keeps my world turning. We also love Phat Milk, So&So, and the new kid on the block, Noughts and Crosses. We are almost spoilt for choice! It’s the weekend now, so the cafes will be heaving, the Farmers Market will be bustling, and everyone will be out and about in the winter sunshine, enjoying this little corner of Melbourne. Caity xx
Welcome, friends, to Dish And Spoon Melbourne! We are glad you’re here. Let’s talk about why you’re here. Are you tired? Hungry? Worn out and in need of comfort and solace? Food is so good for that, isn’t it? When I’m exhausted from life my go-to is strong tea (Yorkshire Gold specifically, if you’re wondering), with a good splash of milk and a teaspoon of sugar. Obviously you’ll be needing a bickie to go with that cuppa – my preference is for a dark chocolate Digestive. Man those things are good. Anyway, sorry, we were talking about you. What’s your go-to comfort food? It really depends on the time of day too, doesn’t it? Chicken soup is instant comfort. Roast with veg, apple crumble, or anything you can eat out of a bowl really. It’s pouring rain outside as I write this and this weather really inspires you to create warmth, both in the kitchen and out of it. This time of the year it’s so important to give yourself permission to slow down, cosy up, and think about the things that bring you comfort. That might be a long bath in the morning. It might be an episode of Seinfeld once the kids are in bed. It might be knowing that your dressing gown is hanging up in the bathroom ready for you once you get out of the shower (anyone else? Just me?), anyway, the point is, find out what brings you comfort and feeds your soul, and then have that stuff in your life. Just keep it around for when you need it. What do you eat when you need comfort? Tell me in the comments below. I’d love to know! Until then, thanks for being here, and keep warm! Caity xx
Hello there, how are you? Thanks so much for being here. It’s nice to see you. Please have a look around. This is our new website, and we are really fond of it. We made it for you, so that you can see who we are, what we are about, and what we like to eat. Dish And Spoon Melbourne is all about good food, quality time with people who are special to you, and enjoyment. Simple! Our little business is driven by love. No joke, it’s true. We love to cook, we love to eat, and we love to share that simple pleasure with people we love. It’s a passion project almost four years in the making. Things have changed a lot in those four years, so life has been hectic and busy and all the things that life just is, but this little idea never went away. It wanted so badly to be out in the world, and so here we are. We named our business Dish And Spoon a bit because of the sweet nursery rhyme (you know it, right? I don’t have to sing it for you?), and a bit because of the essence of cooking and eating – you need a vessel and a stirring utensil when you are creating something or eating something, yes? Those things are essential, and to us, good food is essential to not just our basic human need to be fed so that we can keep living, but for the nourishment of our souls, too. One of the most loving things you can do to show someone you care about them, is to feed them. That’s why we are here. We want you and your families to feel that love when you open your fridges and see that dinner has been made for you, it’s ready for you to heat and eat, and you can rest easy knowing that dinner is on its way. Our food is made fresh in Flemington, our little kitchen is bustling with activity – kettle, oven, and coffee machine constantly humming away too – and it is full of love. We hope you can feel it, too. Caity xx
